The first time I arrived at Basunti in 2007 I was thrilled at its very remote location and the truly breathtaking scenery and more striking, the silence. One of my students said they thought it looked beautiful on Google, but never imagined it would be so beautiful. It’s like the charm of mantra or deep meditation; we’re told it’s wonderful but words can’t ever explain the true feeling of being in that special space, no matter how brief or lasting the experience. Watching little wooden fishing boats being rowed out into the vast reservoir for the morning and evening catch, and the praying mantis by the pool side, all becomes quiet and still. The garden is the owners, Dave and Israela’s, pride and joy and becomes more voluptuous with each passing year. It is a very loved place, fed with passion and compassion. I feel privileged to have spent time there. Teaching at Basunti is always amazing. I love practicing yoga under an open sky. It feeds me. I have always come away from there feeling filled up with more love and inner peace than ever. And from the moment I step out of the jeep to the moment of waving goodbye, I never stop smiling. This is a part of India you leave deep in your heart… |
